Stackstone is a type of stone wall cladding. It is made from stone pieces laid in a stacked pattern, creating the layered horizontal look often used on feature walls, fireplaces, façades and garden walls.
Yes, many stackstone and stone wall cladding products are suitable for outdoor use. They can be used on façades, garden walls, columns, water features and outdoor entertaining areas, provided the product is suitable for exterior installation and sealed correctly where required.
For routine cleaning, dust the surface with a soft brush or vacuum attachment, then wipe with a damp cloth and a pH-neutral stone cleaner. Avoid acidic or abrasive cleaners, which can etch the stone or strip the sealer.
To maintain the appearance of outdoor stone wall cladding, schedule an annual deeper clean and reseal to protect against dirt, stains and moisture.
Natural stone wall cladding usually needs sealing to help protect it from moisture, stains and weather exposure. Porcelain stackstone look tiles are generally lower maintenance, with care requirements varying by product and installation area.
At TFO, stone wall cladding starts from around $29/m² on clearance and ranges up to $105/m² for premium ledgestone, with most of the range sitting between $48 and $80/m². Pricing depends on the stone type, format and finish. Loose freeform walling and rockface cladding are typically priced higher than traditional stackstone strips due to the thicker materials and more complex installation.
Stone wall cladding is installed onto a clean, structurally sound wall using a high-strength flexible tile adhesive. Heavier products like ledgestone and rockface cladding may also need mechanical fixings, particularly on exterior walls. Because of the weight of the materials and the importance of correct adhesive and substrate preparation, installation is best handled by an experienced tiler.
Stackstone is real natural stone, cut into strips or panels and laid in the layered horizontal pattern the style is known for. Each piece is unique, with its own colour variation and texture, formed over thousands of years and sourced from manufacturers around the world.
Stackstone look tiles are porcelain or ceramic tiles printed and textured to mimic that stacked stone appearance. They’re more uniform in colour and size, easier to maintain and often sit at a lower price point. Ideal for wet zones, high-traffic areas and anywhere natural stone isn’t practical.
Both are stocked at TFO. For the lower-maintenance porcelain alternative, see our Stackstone Look Tiles collection.
Yes. We offer full-sized samples at cost, not small swatches. Stone is hard to judge from a photo, so taking a full piece home to check in your own light is the best way to choose with confidence.
